Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan Addresses Ties to Marilyn Manson

Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan has explained why he continues to support his longtime friend Marilyn Manson despite allegations of sexual abuse and domestic violence against the musician.

Speaking on a recent episode of the Popcast podcast, Corgan discussed their nearly 30-year friendship and said his Christian beliefs play a role in maintaining personal relationships during difficult circumstances.

Corgan said he personally did not believe Manson was guilty of the allegations. He also emphasized that supporting a friend does not mean avoiding criticism or overlooking serious accusations.

The musicians share family connections. Manson’s wife, Lindsay Usich, is the twin sister of the wife of Smashing Pumpkins guitarist James Iha.

In January 2025, Los Angeles prosecutors announced they would not pursue criminal charges against Manson following a four-year investigation. Prosecutors cited expired legal deadlines for domestic violence allegations and insufficient evidence to prove sexual assault beyond a reasonable doubt.

Manson, whose real name is Brian Warner, has denied the allegations.

Corgan maintained that individuals found guilty of abuse should face legal consequences, while explaining that he prefers to evaluate personal relationships individually.
